Pitching for work
Tips when submitting proposals and tenders:
- Take time to prepare for meetings with potential business clients. Visit their website or try to get a copy of their latest annual report (if they are really big!)
- Go clean, tidy and reasonably smartly dressed
- Ask what the budget is – some will tell you, others won't, but at least you asked
- Visit the client or site and make thorough notes
- Turn up on time,
- Smile!
- Sound interested and ask questions
- Confirm the work with the client to avoid confusion later
- If you tell them you will provide your price by a certain day and/or time – make sure this happens!
- Only promise what you are confident you can deliver
- Ask if there is anything else
- Check any required deadlines for submission of your quotation and make sure you adhere to them
