Pitching for work

Tips when submitting proposals and tenders:

  • Take time to prepare for meetings with potential business clients. Visit their website or try to get a copy of their latest annual report (if they are really big!)
  • Go clean, tidy and reasonably smartly dressed
  • Ask what the budget is – some will tell you, others won't, but at least you asked
  • Visit the client or site and make thorough notes
  • Turn up on time,
  • Smile!
  • Sound interested and ask questions
  • Confirm the work with the client to avoid confusion later
  • If you tell them you will provide your price by a certain day and/or time – make sure this happens!
  • Only promise what you are confident you can deliver
  • Ask if there is anything else
  • Check any required deadlines for submission of your quotation and make sure you adhere to them
