The simple way to start a business.

“A business has to be involving, it has to be fun, and it has to exercise your creative instincts”
Richard Brason
For many people, financial security is not the driving factor behind running their own business. In fact this is one of the biggest risks when starting your own business.
Tick the statements as they best apply to you and be totally truthful in your response.
| Statement | Always | Sometime | Never |
|---|---|---|---|
| I am a self starter | |||
| I get along with other people | |||
| I can lead & motivate others | |||
| I like to take on responsibility | |||
| I am a good organiser | |||
| I'm careful with my money and can live on a limited budget | |||
| I don't mind getting into debt | |||
| I am prepared to work really hard to get what I want | |||
| I don't like to make instant decisions | |||
| People trust in me | |||
| Once I have a goal, nothing will stop me achieving it | |||
| I am fighting fit and take care of myself | |||
| I'm careful with my money and can live on a limited budget |
Count the ticks in each column. If you've answered 'Always' to most of the statements, you've probably got what it takes to make it by yourself. You are motivated, decisive, experienced and good with people – all valuable qualities for starting and running a successful business.
If you have ticked mainly 'Sometimes' and 'Never' then it might be worth reconsidering your options. You could be letting yourself in for more than you can cope with. This doesn't mean you have to abandon your plans. There may be a different way of going about things. For instance, you could explore going into business with someone who can provide complementary talents to your own.
